Bike Fitting

We take the time to fit you to your bike and for the type of riding you do ... Touring, Racing, Time Trials, Commuting, etc.

We have fit many, many cyclists and they can't believe the difference the changes have made!

Many bike shops do “bike/frame sizing”... but we add “bike fitting”.

Bike sizing is finding the correct bike frame size for the cyclist. The bike size is dependent on the skill and accuracy of the person doing the assessments.

Bike sizing varies between brands. Frame size and geometry is dependent upon inseam, trunk length and arm length, flexibility, and most importantly the goals of the person.

Bike fitting is determining the optimum comfort + performance as it relates to your specific cycling requirements and the connection points between you and the bike (pedals/cleats, handlebars and seat). Since frame size has already been decided, we evaluate your current body dynamics to create a bike fit that gives you maximum power output .... so all that's left is your desire to improve your fitness. We have found that the perfect bike fit is a moving target which needs to be reviewed periodically as you change as a rider. We take static measurements, interpret pedaling motion, body position, and take power output measurements. These change over time as your body adapts to this wonderful sport.

The static measurements, dynamic observation, feedback from you the rider, and performance measurements are taken and translated into postive position changes.
We believe our fitting methods make us standout. We have not seen any measurement device or piece of software that can give you the perfect fit ... and we have used plenty over the years. The quality of the bike fit is dependent on the skills of the person doing the fit … not a software printout.

For most riders, the Bike sizing method is a good STARTING point. We can take you to the next level by doing a Bike fitting. This is where we create the power and comfort that makes your riding enjoyable!

FBC Recommended Maintenance Tips for our Customers:

Daily

  • Check Tire pressure: Keep tire pressure with-in tire specifications.
You loose ~ .5 to1 lb of air pressure per day.

  • Hand spin the wheels: Look for out-of-true wheels, no brake pad rub, check tires for cracks/issues.

  • Make sure “Quick Release” skewers are tight.

  • Check Brakes: Squeeze levers and make sure pads properly contact rims/rotors(Disc).
Brakes should not feel spongy or slowly retract.

  • Check Headset: Close the front brake with one hand and grab the top tube with the other, now rock the bike forward and back ... If you will feel excess movement, or a clunk, the headset is loose, DO NOT RIDE, fix it before you ride or bring it to your local bike shop to have the headset inspected/tightened.

  • Check Crank: Grab the down-tube with one hand and the crank with the other, now see if you have any movement between the two. If you will feel excess movement, DO NOT RIDE, fix it before you ride or bring it to your local bike shop to have the proper torque measurement applied per your type of crank.

Weekly

  • Wipe down your bike!

  • Re-lube pivot points and chain (wipe chain down, apply tube, wipe off excess)

  • Check bike over for worn or damaged components.

  • Check all binder bolts for tightness (Stem, Handlebar, Seat, Brake, Derailleur)

  • If you have a workstand, check shifting front/rear and make sure derailleur set screws are properly set. When in doubt, bring your bike down to your local bike shop.

Yearly

  • Tune-up or Overhaul depending on the amount of miles you put in and if you are a fair weather rider or if rain/snow are just an inconvenience.
    Examples

Tune-up: 500-1500 miles with only an occasional raining day.
Overhaul: 2000-4000 miles, ride rain or shine.
